Professor Trelawney
Professor Trelawney was made as part of a Harry Potter group completed for Costume-Con 37 in 2019. This costume was deceptively simple. The original costume from the movie has a unique embroidered linen with eye shaped mirrors, velvet burnout underdress, and a very worn in embroidrered handbag. I was unable to find screen accurate fabrics, so I spent quite a bit of time dyeing fabrics, thrift shopping for a burnout velvet dress that was close to the original, and making a digital print of the handbag to have printed at Spoonflower.
The underdress was made from a thrifted velvet floor length maxi dress. I chopped off the sleeves and about 6 inches from the hem and sewed on two bands of printed fabric. The orange sweater was also thrifted and altered to have a split front and drawstring tie.
The embroidered overdress was self drafted from my sloper patterns and made from an embroidered cotton home dec fabric. I dyed the fabric several times with blue and green RIT dye to achieve the sage green color I was looking for. The dress has self loop buttons down the front, small gathered cuffs with loop closure, and a long fringe trim at the bottom.
Treelawney has a ton of various accessories like bracelets, earrings, socks, red cutaway shoes, and her big hair and scarf. I sourced nearly everything on Poshmark and various thrift stores. I ended up making a small eyeball charm from Worbla and a plush bear eye. The bag was a labor of love. I created a replica of the print on Adobe Illustrator and then had the fabric printed on fleece from Spoonflower. The bag handles were made by a family member that cut and sanded the handles based on a design I gave him. The bag is lined in Hogwarts quilting cotton :)
I had an absolute blast in this costume and it is by far the comfiest one to wear!
