Whale Polka Dot Corset

I have had the privilege of working with a number of very talented photographers over the years and once in a while they like to experiment with new things. When Jamie Wexler, a photographer I've worked with several times in the past was offering free pinup shoots to expand his portfolio, I couldn't let it pass up!

Construction

I've always wanted to do a pinup photoshoot sometime, and I knew it had to reflect something about my personality. I originally wanted to design a corset with sewing motifs on it, but I couldn't find a fabric I liked, but when I found this fabric that not only had CUTE WHALES (my favorite animal!) and polka dots (!!!) I had to have it. 

I found a website online on drafting a corset from measurements (You can see it here) that I wanted to test out with the intention of being able to recommend it to future students. Overall the draft was very simple, even though I had to take out the last panel in order for my corset to close all the way. The proportions came out great and the instructions were very clear. I made this a very lightweight corset, with only two interfaced layers of cotton and separate exposed boning channels. The pink ruffle bib is removable, and has ruffles with pinked edges and pearl decorations. The side ruffles on the corset are catch stitched onto the lining of the corset.
